May 29th 2011 Mount Nod v Coventrians.
Today’s game was used as another practice to how we would like things to run when we enter the league later
this year (September). Mike and Dave F took the lads and ran them through a pre-match routine to ensure they
start each game with the correct mind set and WOW did it work!! The lads flew out of the blocks with the
enthusiasm that makes my life a lot easier, with Ryan, Rylee and Louis starting to talk to each other about
positions and then whichever midfield two of Tate, Tyler, Harry and Harley biting into every tackle (some possibly
a little stronger than they should be) and then passing and supporting the forwards of Jack Blythe, Luke and
Charlie (The Poacher) who’s running never stops. I must though give a big high five to our goalkeeper who
hasn’t conceded a goal for 4 games and then to come out on the pitch and score, well done Jack. Again keep it
up lads.
May 14th 2011 v Rugby Town JFC
As it’s been a month since our last proper game I was worried about the lads forgetting how to put the things
we practice in training to good use in a game….HOW WRONG WAS I!!! Although it was a very windy day, the
lads played a great game of football and managed to keep the ball moving, it was always going to be a tough
game against a Rugby team which has a very impressive set up and an soccer school with even more to
choose from than we do but Mount Nod Red’s don’t back down to anyone, the tackling was superb, the passing
impressive, the shooting fantastic, the set pieces out of this world for 6 year olds but importantly the effort was
incredible and today’s result was down to a combination of all of these, I wish I could bottle it and sell it to various
championship teams I would like to mention. In fact the hardest part of the manager’s job is trying to keep 11
players happy who all want to be on the pitch for the whole match even though we only play 7 a-side, if only I got
paid 10p for every time I was asked “Can I go on yet”, keep it up lads and I promise I don’t mind being asked!!
Scorers:
Tyler 3, Jack B2, Charlie 1,Harley 1
On a very hot day and with a couple of players missing, so less substitutions, Mount Nod White’s took to
the field against a much changed and improved Leamington Hibs team in what turned out to be easily the
most competitive game so far. Leamington started very strongly and in the first third of the game scoring
a couple of goals which their start deserved. The second third was equally shared with a couple of goals
apiece but the determination and desire of Mount Nod saw them finish the game stronger and deservedly
take the final third. A massive congratulations must go to the Leamington Hibs lads who played an excellent
game and were a credit to their coaching staff.
Wow, another game where the effort and commitment of both teams was incredible, I know a lot of people
in the area wish that Coventry City played with this much passion. The game itself showed again just how
far Mount Nod Reds have come since their first game, playing against an equally capable Southam side
Mount Nod spentthe majority of the game in the Southam half but it wasn’t until a managerial master stroke
in bringing Tate on was the deadlock finally broken….he scored a great goal with his first touch. The second
goal came after Mount Nod got a corner, where Southam cleared the ball to Ryan who shot from around 25
yards (his dad says further!!) and although the keeper managed to get a hand on the ball it still went in off
the inside of the post. Southam to their credit kept going and were unlucky in that only the post, and some
excellent goalkeeping from Jack (the cat) and some last ditch defending kept them out, it was the turn of
Jack B to score his first ever goal, where he volleyed in an excellent goal after some nice passing. A special
thank you must go out to the way the supporters of both teams conducted themselves and ensured that the
lads enjoyed every minute.
12th Feb v Stockton
Mount Nod (Reds) After watching their club mates play a strong Stockton team, Mount Nod Reds took to the
pitch against another strong Stockton team which included a couple of older players. With both teams having
previous match experience the game was soon flowing both ways with both teams going very close to scoring
and the keepers making great saves, and it was Stockton who made the initial break through. Despite having
conceded their first goal, ever, Mount Nod Reds never let their heads go down and in fact only pushed
stronger for a goal of their own which did come. When the final whistle did come the appreciation from the
large crowd showed what an excellent game it had been and both teams insisted they were looking
forward to playing again soon. Again WELL DONE GUYS!!!
